The best part of a day of service? It usually turns into a day of learning and inspiration.

The Trojan Debate Squad, USC’s oldest chartered student organization, is gaining momentum. It teaches critical analysis and reasoned argument during an era of trolls and “fake news.”

There are thousands of panel discussions held on college campuses each year, and most have a well-worn look and feel: chairs arranged on stage, occupied by academics. But when Alison Trope, USC Annenberg clinical professor of communication and director of undergraduate studies, was given the opportunity to curate a series of events on fashion, she began by turning the topic inside out, re-imagining the very presentation of scholarly thought.

Mike Baker and Justin Mayo of the Seattle Times have won the 2018 Selden Ring Award for Investigative Reporting for their series “Quantity of Care.”

The USC Annenberg School of Journalism today announced the launch of the Center for Health Journalism Impact Fund, which supports results-focused, explanatory and investigative reporting on the health of underserved communities.

During half-time at the Nov. 29 sold-out Lakers vs. Warriors game, two USC Annenberg students, James Thomas McDaniels ’18 and Jackson Safon ’18, received the 2017 Chick Hearn Memorial Scholarship in a center court ceremony. They were joined by members of the Hearn family and USC Annenberg Dean Willow Bay.

“There’s lot of great investigative reporting going on right now. There’s a lot of unprecedented things happening in government, which are making for some really fascinating stories. But all eyes are on us in a way that’s never been before,” said veteran newsman Lester Holt to a packed forum in Wallis Annenberg Hall on Nov. 16.
