Four students from USC Annenberg will attend the 2017 South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference from March 10-19 in Austin, Texas. Austin Roy, Diana Lee, Sarah McMullen and Elias Goodstein are attending the conference and festival as part of the inaugural Career Trek, organized by the school's Career Development office. The annual conference celebrates the convergence of the technology, interactive, film and music industries.

USC Annenberg Dean Ernest J. Wilson III delivered the 13th annual James L. Loper Lecture in Public Service Broadcasting on Feb. 22 at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills. The Loper Lecture honors the late James L. Loper, a Southern Californian pioneer in public broadcasting.

The Online News Association’s 2017 Women’s Leadership Accelerator took place at USC Annenberg February 5–10. The weeklong forum focused on developing strong leadership skills for women working in digital journalism. In addition to sessions with women leaders in the media industry, participants heard from experts in the Los Angeles media community and worked closely with mentors on their personal projects.

This summer, 26 high school students will take part in the Annenberg Youth Academy for Media and Civic Engagement, an intensive, three-week academy designed to expose students to media, technology, communications, journalism, civic engagement and their impact in our society today.

The spotlight was on two USC Annenberg students Sunday night at Staples Center, where they were presented with the 2016 Chick Hearn Memorial Scholarship in a ceremony at center court. Keely Eure (B.A. Broadcast Journalism, '17) and Jodee Storm Sullivan (B.A. Broadcast and Digital Journalism, '18) received the award from the Hearn family and Annenberg Dean Ernest J. Wilson III during half-time at the Lakers vs. Hawks game, which fell on what would have been the late legendary announcer's 100th birthday.
