“There’s lot of great investigative reporting going on right now. There’s a lot of unprecedented things happening in government, which are making for some really fascinating stories. But all eyes are on us in a way that’s never been before,” said veteran newsman Lester Holt to a packed forum in Wallis Annenberg Hall on Nov. 16.

On issues as diverse as health care, immigration, race and sexuality, Americans today hold more extreme and more divergent views than they did a decade ago. The reason for this dramatic shift is a device owned by more than three out of every four Americans.

While parents, teachers and even advertisements may tell girls that they can do or be anything, a new study reveals that popular movies have a different message. The report, out today from Professor Stacy L. Smith, focuses on the depiction of girls age 6 to 20 across 900 top movies of the last decade. The findings show that younger female characters are missing and marginalized in top-grossing films

For the first time in its history, the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism has won the prestigious PRO-AM Student Award, as part of the Online News Association’s Online Journalism Awards.

Leigh Lehman’s journey towards public relations was one of chance. “Honestly, I fell into it,” she said. After obtaining a job as a PR student worker for a dean on campus during her sophomore year of college, Lehman, who later went on to graduate in 2009 with a master’s in strategic public relations, was responsible for promoting school groups and student services in on-campus publications and local outlets. Thinking back to these opportunities, she wrote, “There was something about telling those interesting stories and connecting groups and causes with the needs of students that stuck with me.” This experience was one which steered her towards PR.
