The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation honored USC Annenberg's student-run television newsmagazine Impact on April 23, awarding the team a second-place designation in the "magazine" category at the 35th College Television Awards.
The students who received the highly coveted national award at Wednesday night's gala were 2013 senior producers: Shweta Saraswat (M.A. 2013), Tallie Johnson (M.A. 2013), Tiara Chiaramonte (M.A. 2013), Grace Lim (M.A. 2014) and Kaysie Ellingson (M.A. 2014). Student segment producers Nicole Fukukoka (B.A. 2013), Andria Kowalchik (B.A. 2013) and Sean Patrick Lewis (B.A. 2013) were also key story contributors.
Journalism Professor Daniel Birman, Line Producer Megan Chao (M.A. 2008) and Online Editor and Production Technical Supervisor Lee Warner supervised the award-winning team's operations.
"I'm so proud of our team for the success of Impact," said Birman. "It was an incredible night at the Academy — all the great support at USC Annenberg made it possible for our students to be there among the very best and to walk away with a major award." It is Impact's ninth Academy Foundation win in the last 12 years.
