Adjunct journalism professor Frank Sotomayor
Adjunct journalism professor Frank Sotomayor will be inducted into the Stanford Multicultural Alumni Hall of Fame next month. Sotomayor's award is in recognition of his many contributions to journalism and his advocacy of admission of Chicano students to Stanford when he was a graduate student in 1967. Sotomayor is a long-time journalist, mentor and advocate for diversity in the news media. He worked in various writing and editing positions for 35 years at the Los Angeles Times, where he was co-editor and a writer of the landmark Times series "Latinos in Southern California," which won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. He was co-founder of the Robert C. Maynard Institute for Journalism Education and the California Chicano News Media Association. In 2002, he was named to the Hall of Fame of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. He is a senior fellow at the Institute for Justice and Journalism. He joins journalism and communication professor Félix Gutiérrez in the Stanford Hall of Fame. Gutiérrez was inducted in 2002.
