Henry “Hank” Rieger, former President of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and colleague at USC Annenberg, died on March 5 at age 95.
Rieger attended school at the University of Southern California and went on to become an adjunct faculty member at USC Annenberg for more than 20 years.
In a 1999 interview, Rieger discussed the thrill of chasing big stories, something that he also shared with his students.
“It’s an adrenaline thing,” Rieger said. “It starts with you and goes with you the whole story.”
USC Annenberg Professor Joe Saltzman was also saddened by the news of Rieger’s passing.
“In the early years, Hank was always there for School of Journalism faculty and students,” said Saltzman. “He gave me my first job [at UPI] and gave many of our students their first job. We'll miss him.”
