Professor Kun discusses music as a social action at TEDxUSC

Communication and journalism professor Josh Kun

Communication and journalism professor Josh Kun was recently featured at TEDxUSC to discuss “Music as Social Action.” Kun’s talk discusses music in context of economic globalization, and more specifically, in a world in which 213 million people have been forced to leave their homes as refugees, exiles and immigrants. Video of his talk is available. “We think of borders as lines on maps, as walls, as fences,” Kun said. “But we also need to think about borders as things that make sound,” Kun said, referring specifically to the U.S.-Mexico border. “Ever since the border has existed, the border has been something -- a wall, a fence, a line -- that speaks and sings and shouts, “ said Kun. “The border has never been quiet.” Video -- Reporting by student writer Amelia Brodka
