Trojan Debate Squad director Stables develops debate series

Director of the USC Annenberg Trojan Debate Squad Gordon Stables helped the Annenberg Presidential Learning Center develop The Ronald Reagan Great Communicator Debate Series.

"Their goal was to expand the role of civics education and I helped design a debate curriculum and series," Stables said. "We planned and executed regional competitions across the country, including one that we hosted at USC and one I directed in Northern Virginia."

Eight high school students will debate the need for a balanced budget amendment at the national championships of the series on Saturday at the Reagan Library. The students are from Missouri, Virginia, Connecticut, California, Louisiana and Florida, and the winner will receive a $10,000 college scholarship and $25,000 will be distributed between the other seven finalists.
