Amanda Valle, MCM Candidate, Class of 2016
As some of my fellow bloggers have pointed out, the new Wallis Annenberg Hall is equipped with state of the art technology. And guess what, professors expect you to use it! One of the great aspects of this program regardless of your emphasis is its cultural relevance. Multi-media knowledge has become part all industries and any job with growth potential. In this program I have met people who work in fashion, education, entertainment, politics, etc., and one thing everyone has in common is the effect technology has had on their profession or aspiring profession. The MCM program realizes that in order to succeed, young professionals need to be up to speed with the current technological environment.
Annenberg has partnered with Adobe, and as part of the student fee, all students have access to the Adobe Creative Cloud. This includes state-of-the-art software tools including Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, InDesign, and Muse for all your print, video, web, and design needs. This cloud comes in handy when working on projects for class. So far I’ve had to make short videos, give presentations with multi- media aspects, and develop marketing campaigns from scratch. Without access to the Cloud, and the new named Julie Chen/Leslie Moonves and CBS Media Center, I wouldn’t have been able to produce the level of work needed to help build my portfolio.
To all the future MCM students, regardless of the area of focus you chose, I recommend taking a class in the Media and Entertainment Management track to help build these tools. I have found that these classes in particular help you build your technology skills so you can become competitive in the job market.
