Civic media talk with public media producer Juan Devis
Tuesday, March 24, 2020
1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Online
Join the Annenberg Innovation Lab (AnnLab) for a public chat featuring KCET Chief Creative Officer Juan Devis.
The Civic Media Fellowship at AnnLab aims to strengthen and expand the field of civic media — the use of today’s technologies to create and harness media that connects with communities, inspires action, builds civic capacity and helps sustain social change effort — by pushing the boundaries of what it can be.
As part of the Civic Media field-building activities this spring, AnnLab is holding public chats featuring practitioners — artists, creators, storytellers, organizers and others working at the intersections of media, technology and culture — presenting and sharing their civic media work to inspire and build community with other practitioners. These public chats provide a platform to share and reflect on civic media practice, highlight the work being done and the way folks are working and encourage conversation amongst a growing network.
About the speaker:
As chief creative officer, Juan Devis spearheaded the transformation of KCET’s public broadcasting multi-platform with quality content that pulls two million viewers to KCETLink’s primary channel, making it the most-watched public television station in Southern California and the second most-watched public television station in the nation. Under Devis’s leadership, KCET produces and distributes award-winning local programs such as Broken Bread, Migrant Kitchen, Tending the Wild, and the 2016 Emmy Award winning series Artbound.
For more than a decade, Devis has worked with a number of non-profit organizations and media arts institutions in Los Angeles serving as producer, director, educator and board member. Devis was appointed to serve as a member of the California Arts Council and is a trustee of the California Historical Society. He has won numerous awards for his film, TV, and interactive work including Emmys, Webbys, National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards and more.
