On May 16, 2025, USC Annenberg celebrated its commencement ceremony, honoring nearly 1,300 graduates in communication, journalism and public relations. Thousands of friends, family members, faculty and staff gathered at Shrine Auditorium to mark the occasion.
Dean Willow Bay opened the ceremony by recognizing the Class of 2025’s perseverance and strength. “Through it all you have demonstrated grit and grace, determination and resilience,” Bay said. “Own these strengths — you have earned them.”
The keynote address was delivered by Academy Award-winning actor, producer, author and activist Jane Fonda, who urged graduates to build community, protect democracy and take bold action in the face of the climate crisis. “Hope is a muscle, like the heart,” Fonda said. “It’s when we take action that hope comes alive.”
Underscoring USC Annenberg’s mission to use communication in service of all people, Bay and Fonda encouraged graduates to use their skills to shape a more just and sustainable world.
