The tape that ended Trump's child separation policy

Wednesday, February 6, 2019

Noon 1:30 p.m.

Wallis Annenberg Hall (ANN), 106

A searing audiotape of detained immigrant children crying for their parents broke through all the political noise and forced the Trump administration to back off its child separation policy. The journalist who got that tape is Ginger Thompson, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter at ProPublica.

Thompson will talk about that tape — and larger issues about reporting on immigration, race, and the US-Mexico border — with Graciela Mochkofsky, an award-winning Argentinian journalist and author who runs the Spanish-language journalism program at The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York.
