LGBTQ+ reporting panel

Tuesday, March 11, 2025

Noon 1 p.m. PT

Wallis Annenberg Hall (ANN), Sheindlin Forum (106)

LGBTQ+ rights are under threat in the U.S., yet many media outlets and reporters lack the resources to tell these stories today with the renewed cultural literacy that this era of journalism requires. This reporting panel will bring together renowned queer writers and editors to discuss best practices for LGBTQ+ reporting including style guides, responsible reporting, and career advice for queer professionals.

This panel precedes JOUR 468, a LGBTQ+ reporting class, offered in Fall 2025. Panelists include:

  • Moderator: Rax Will, Professor JOUR 468 Fall 2025

  • Gina Chua, executive editor, Semafor
  • Jireh Deng, economy fellow at Business Insider
  • Lil Kalish, LGBTQ+ rights reporter at HuffPost
  • Kate Sosin, LGBTQ+ reporter at The 19th News
