Migrants, Media, and the State: The soft power of immigration policy

On March 2, 2018, MPD students Jamie Kwong ‘18 and SarahBelle Selig ‘18 hosted the program’s 10th annual spring conference entitled “Migrants, Media, and the State: The Soft Power of Immigration Policy.” A number of diplomatic officials, faculty, students, and media and immigration professionals attended the conference as both speakers and guests, contributing to an informative discussion on refugee crises, citizenship and border law, media and new technology, and state and international policy responses to migration phenomena. The event featured three panels and highlighted the critical role immigration policy plays in strengthening or weakening a state’s soft power.
