Our Unsilencing

Led by Associate Professor of Journalism Jean Guerrero, Our Unsilencing is an opinion commentary bootcamp hosted by USC Annenberg in partnership with Unseen. The program aims to cultivate a new generation of public intellectuals by expanding access to the skills, mentorship and media platforms needed to shape public discourse. 

Through immersive instruction, hands-on exercises and long-term mentorship, emerging writers learn to develop and pitch commentary across print, radio, television and social media. Participants also receive support in publishing their work and sharing what they have learned within their communities, helping to ensure that a broader range of voices and perspectives is represented in the U.S. news media.

Participants have published their work in Time Magazine, The New Republic, the Sacramento Bee, CalMatters, Zócalo Public Square, and Golden State. They have also led their own Our Unsilencing workshops in their communities.
