Zituo Wang

Zituo Wang researches visibility across social media and AI systems. He interrogates who remains unseen and how/why they are invisible. His work seeks to understand social reality from marginalized perspectives, examine institutional norms and practices that reproduce oppression, and deconstruct ostensibly neutral structures in the larger society. By employing computational methods like large language models and computer vision, he wants to address existing challenges in multilingual, multimodal, and multiplatform studies.

Zituo received his MS in digital social media from USC and BA in advertising from Huazhong University of Science and Technology. His research has been published in New Media & SocietyScience CommunicationComputational Communication Research, and covered by The Economist and The Wall Street Journal. Alongside his academic endeavors, Zituo has professional experience at WeChat and Tencent News. He is also a marathon runner and drone pilot who enjoys swimming and sleeping in his spare time.
