Yiting “Daisy” Huang is a Ph.D. student at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. She has always wanted to be a good storyteller. Daisy earned her B.A. in Advertising from Nanjing Normal University, where she learned how to tell engaging stories about products and organizations. She later pursued a dual master’s degree in Communication Data Science at Tsinghua University and the University of Southern California. During this program, she learned to uncover stories through data and tell them with rigor. She also developed a strong interest in telling stories about health and society, especially stories that can deepen public understanding and inspire meaningful change.
This interest led Daisy to health and risk communication. She seeks to understand how individuals make sense of public health crises through their interactions with the social environment, and how to translate these insights into multilevel interventions that enhance collective response. Her previous research has explored how to communicate with the public about vaccination, breast cancer, climate change, and autism. Ultimately, she hopes to conduct more theory-driven research across the SHER communication domain and become a social scientist whose work creates meaningful social impact.
Her Chinese first name, Yiting, sounds like “eating” in English. This suits her well because good food always makes her happy :) Outside of research, Daisy enjoys staying active, dressing up, and exploring new things.
