Will Orr is a PhD candidate at the Annenberg School of Communication, advised by Mike Ananny. His work examines the sociotechnical dynamics of creating and evaluating Artificial Intelligence systems. He explores the cultures, practices, and epistemologies that shape these technologies to critically assess how they can be designed and deployed responsibly. His dissertation investigates how data practitioners enact and negotiate 'data quality' in the creation of AI datasets, uncovering the messy and contingent work of maintaining quality in the shifting landscape of contemporary AI and data science.
Will holds a BA in Sociology and Politics from the University of Melbourne, and a Master of Applied Data Analytics from the Australian National University. He is also a Visiting Fellow at the Justice and Technoscience (JusTech) lab at ANU's School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet).
