Seongkyung Lee is invested in imagining new paths for more democratic and justice-conducive designs of data-based technologies, especially in the healthcare sector. In doing so, she emphasizes the importance of sociotechnical imaginaries, always embedded within specific socio-historical contexts, geopolitical structures and power relations. She seeks to answer the following questions: How do different sociotechnical imaginaries around new data-based technologies work to co-produce reality, often in favor of existing power/knowledge structures? How could we construct more justice-conducive imaginaries by focusing on the living experiences of marginalized groups?
Prior to joining USC Annenberg, Lee worked in the South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare, where she contributed to designing and implementing various social and health policies, including response measures to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lee earned her Msc in Inequalities and Social Science from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She holds a BA in Economics and a BA in Political Science and International Relations from Seoul National University in South Korea.
