Nitanga Yvoni Safi is a PhD student at the Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Southern California. She is interested in conducting research that examines the intersections between health communication, social media, race, and gender in shaping individuals’ health behaviors and perceptions, and access to healthcare resources.
Safi received her B.S. in Journalism and Mass Communication at Iowa State University and her M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her master’s thesis looked at how demographic characteristics such as race and socioeconomic status impacted the perceived utility of health information found on social media.
