Kenneth Y. Choi is a doctoral student at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. His research examines how individuals, groups, and organizations strategically leverage and are constrained by emerging communication technologies, with particular attention to personalization and customization in the expression of individual and collective identity, as well as tensions between efficiency and privacy. He is interested in understanding how communication technologies shape social interactions, identity construction, and the design of safer, more effective communication environments across diverse contexts.
His most recent research focuses on the operationalization of personalization and customization in virtual reality research within the social sciences, investigating how experimenters and participants implement avatar customization and personalized digital experiences. Through his work, he seeks to contribute to the development of communication systems and environments that support effective, inclusive, and socially responsible interaction in rapidly evolving technological landscapes.
Before joining USC Annenberg, he received an M.P.S. in Information Science and a B.S. in Communication from Cornell University.
