
Juan Ortiz-Freuler explores the relationship between geopolitics and the design and deployment of networked technologies. His current research focuses on the US-China rift and its impacts on internet governance, internet fragmentation and the strategic responses emerging from global majority countries.
Juan co-founded and manages the Non-Aligned Tech Movement, and has held senior roles at leading organizations, including as Senior Policy Fellow at the Web Foundation (working alongside Tim Berners-Lee), and as a Fellow and Affiliate at the Berkman Klein Center (2017-2024). Earlier, he worked as a researcher and advocate with human rights and digital rights nonprofits in Argentina and Mexico.
He holds a law degree from Di Tella Law School (Buenos Aires) and master's degrees in Public Policy and Social Science of the Internet from the University of Oxford.
