Angelina Mason is a PhD student at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Her research has a strong focus on critical/cultural studies and she intends to use her work to rhetorically critique how identity and ideology are constructed, maintained by the media, and embodied. Previous research explored topics such as fugitivity within academia, misogynoir on social media, and racism’s effect on the politics of Ugly.
Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, Angelina earned a B.S. in Communication and a B.A. Gender, Ethnicity, and Multicultural Studies at Cal Poly Pomona as a McNair Scholar. She then went on to complete her M.A. in Communication Studies at Cal State LA while being a Teaching Associate. Her scholarly work has been presented at the National Communication Association (NCA) and the Western States Communication Association (WSCA).
