Domestic violence affects more than 10 million Americans each year. And in California, more than half of families have been touched by domestic violence. Yet it is often treated as a criminal or private matter rather than a public health epidemic. Journalism can play a role in bringing about change and greater awareness. The USC Annenberg Center for Health Journalism’s annual domestic violence symposium and impact fund provide reporters with a roadmap for covering this public health epidemic with nuance and sensitivity. Click here for more information.

All Annenberg students are eligible to attend this virtual symposium.

The Center for Health Journalism is also offering a domestic violence student impact reporting fund — a new student scholarship and mentoring opportunity. Students are eligible to apply if they are a junior, senior or graduate student in journalism. By participating in this program, you’ll have an opportunity to gain valuable insights, while receiving mentoring, project editing, and a grant to support your work. Click here to apply.
