Headshot of George Villanueva. Juxtaposing graduate studies at USC Annenberg, global placemaking histories in L.A., and recent academic trajectories in Chicago and Houston, this talk with George Villanueva argues that the field of communication can create spaces that advance a transdisciplinary imaginary

George Villanueva is Associate Professor in the Department of Communication & Journalism at Texas A&M University. He researches the role that communication, organizing, media, activism and expressive culture play in place-based advocacy and social change goals of marginalized communities of color in cities. He is the author of the book Promoting Urban Social Justice through Engaged Communication Scholarship: Reimagining Place.

The Walt Fisher Lecture is held annually by USC Annenberg in honor of the late Professor Emeritus Walter R. Fisher.

Reception will be held prior to the lecture starting at 5 p.m. in the ASC Second Floor West Lobby.
