Master’s Student

Where are you from, and what were you doing before enrolling in graduate school?

I’m from South L.A., born and raised about a mile from USC. Before enrolling into graduate school, I’d just graduated with a BS in journalism from SJSU at the peak of the pandemic. I spent my time applying to jobs and figuring out what my next move in my career would be. I was able to find a contracting position as a content writer for a marketing agency.

How did you learn of the degree program, and why did you choose USC Annenberg?

After being social media editor at my undergrad’s newspaper publication, I decided I wanted to attend a  program that delved deeper into the world of social media platforms. I reached out to a friend, who’d also been through the program and helped me make the decision to choose Annenberg’s DSM program, because it’s a great hybrid between STEM and digital media, all in the epicenter of tech and media industries in L.A.

What have you enjoyed the most about the degree program?

I’ve enjoyed getting to know and learn from the professors in a small-class setting. The professors have created a safe space where I can share my thoughts and ask questions. Small-class settings also have allowed me the opportunity to network and talk to those in my cohort to gain different perspectives on technology and online communication.
