‘Through the Banks of the Red Cedar’ screening and conversation

Thursday, February 6, 2020

7 p.m.

Wallis Annenberg Hall (ANN), Auditorium (L105A)

Maya Washington’s Through the Banks of the Red Cedar is a powerful documentary about the first fully-integrated college football team in America. The USC alumna retraces the footsteps of her father, Michigan State Athletics Hall of Famer Gene Washington, from the segregated South to Michigan State, and later the NFL, revealing how scholarships impacted the lives of players of color at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker, her father, his teammate Clinton Jones, and USC professors Daniel Durbin and Ben Carrington.

Presented by USC Visions and Voices: The Arts and Humanities Initiative. Organized by Julianna Kirschner and the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Co-sponsored by the USC Annenberg Institute of Sports, Media, and Society.

Admission is free. RSVP at visionsandvoices.usc.edu.
