Multimedia war correspondent offers insights into future of news

Students were treated to a pre-release screening of war correspondent Kevin Sites’ upcoming documentary, “A World of Conflict,” which covers his reporting in the world’s most dangerous war zones.

He said the future of journalism will be multimedia reporting that combines print, broadcast and photojournalism. This also describes the solo reporting he did in the war zones for the documentary and his ongoing blog on Yahoo! News, “Kevin Sites in the Hot Zone.”

“Think about how much more fair you’re being to the subject when you show the complete story,” Sites said. “You owe it to them to get as close as you can.”

He told the audience he is optimistic about the quality of journalism in the United States.

“I’m not one of those who bemoans the state of journalism,” he said. “I think we have terrific journalists out there – the American people just have to look for them.”
