"It is a great honor to be nominated by your students, peers and School for these awards — the letters of support for all faculty nominated were profound and heartfelt reflections of the extraordinary effort faculty like you provide here at USC," USC Mellon Mentoring Forum co-chairs Charles Gomer and Devon Brooks wrote to Gross in the award letter. "As demonstrated in the letters from your mentees, you are an exceptional member of our faculty at USC who has made a difference in the lives of your students and fellow faculty."
Gross and his nominators were invited to attend an honors reception on April 22.
"Larry is the latest in a long line of USC Annenberg faculty winning teaching, mentoring and research awards," Dean Ernest J. Wilson III said. "This honor is especially meaningful this year since the competition was particularly strong with over 425 nominations including an online voting site."
Communication professors Margaret McLaughlin and Sarah Banet-Weiser and journalism professor Bryce Nelson won the Mellon Mentoring Award in 2008. Communication professor Kwan Min Lee won in 2007.
