Dean Wilson set to deliver second installment of W.E.B. Du Bois Lecture

USC Annenberg Dean Ernest J. Wilson III is scheduled to deliver today at Harvard University the second of his planned three-day series of related remarks.

The trio of presentations carry the overall title, "Exclusion and Inequality in Digital Societies: Theories, Evidence, and Strategy." Today's speech, set for 4pm EST / 1pm PST, is called, “Policy Responses to Digital Inequality: Beyond Economics."

Tuesday's opening remarks were titled, "What the Transition to a Digital Society Means for Those at the Bottom." Following the remarks and a Q-and-A period, Dean Wilson then joined in a reception (see photo above).

The Dean is at Harvard for these three days as the speaker for the prestigious W.E.B. Du Bois Lecture Series. The annual event is organized by the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research. Past speakers include Condoleezza Rice, Kwame Anthony Appiah, Marian Wright Edelman and Cornel West.

USC Annenberg student Eric Burse is scheduled to livetweet from the lecture hall today and Thursday between approximately 1:00-2:30pm PST. The tweets – along with others related to the remarks and to the greater topics at large – will be made from the @digital_du_bois Twitter handle.

Also of note: A website related to Dean Wilson's larger inquiry is online at www.digitaldubois.net. Fourteen leading experts, and counting, have already contributed responses to questions related to the hypothetical, "If W.E.B. Du Bois were with us today, what would he say about the impact of the ‘Information Revolution’ on communities of color in the United States?"

Those contributors include USC Annenberg professors Manuel Castells and Taj Frazier and CCLP fellow and past CPD fellow Adam Clayton Powell III. Members of the USC community and beyond are welcome and encouraged to contribute their thoughts and observations via the comments section of the website and via Twitter.
