Undergraduate students to spend year in Jordan, China after earning Fulbright Scholarships

Annenberg seniors Zain Shauk (pictured, print journalism, '07) and Diana Lin (communication and English/creative writing, '07) earned a chance of a lifetime by winning Fulbright Scholarships for 2007-2008.

Shauk will travel to Jordan to study "the media's role in Jordan's quest for national identity." Lin will travel to China to study "the impact of modern China’s linguistic evolution on Chinese identity."

"I'm hoping mainly to gain a greater understanding of a culture and a people that I am so disconnected from as a student in Los Angeles" said Shauk, who has interned with Sports Illustrated in New York and FOXsports.com in Los Angeles. "Eventually, my goal is to gain enough from my experience that I'd be able to work as a journalist in the region."

Seven USC students won Fulbrights this year, tying a USC record. More students could still win this year.
