NEA announces second arts journalism institute at USC Annenberg

The National Endowment for the Arts and USC Annenberg have announced the second USC Annenberg/NEA Arts Journalism Institute in Theater and Musical Theater. The Institute will be held January 9-20, 2006 in Los Angeles. It is part of a series of programs across the country focused on improving arts criticism and coverage of theater, classical music, opera and dance. "The vitality of the arts depends more than most people think on lively and informed criticism, especially local reviews and coverage from their own communities," said NEA Chairman Dana Gioia. "USC has created an exemplary program of professional development for arts journalists." USC Annenberg program director and veteran arts journalist Sasha Anawalt (pictured) will direct the Institute in collaboration with artistic advisor and LA Weekly theater editor Steven Leigh Morris.
