Filmmaker Sabido wins Rogers Award

Mexican filmmaker and educator Miguel Sabido is the winner of the second annual Everett M. Rogers Award for Achievement in Entertainment-Education. Presented by USC Annenberg's Norman Lear Center in memory of former associate dean and Walter H. Annenberg Professor of Communication Everett Rogers, the award honors exceptional creativity in the practice of entertainment-education. "Ev Rogers worked extensively with Miguel Sabido to launch development communications programs that have changed the world - from Mexico, to India, to the Philippines and beyond," said Dean Geoffrey Cowan. Sabido (pictured), a producer, scriptwriter, playwright and director, is a fierce advocate of the power of entertainment to effect social change. His telenovela Ven Conmigo (Come With Me) is credited with inspiring nearly one million adults to go back to elementary school as part of the Mexican government's National Plan for Adult Education. He is currently president of the World Entertainment-Education Foundation. The award will be presented at the Lear Center's annual Sentinel for Health Awards ceremony.
