Public diplomacy professor Nick Cull spoke about the importance of public diplomacy in global politics on April 11 at Brigham Young University, and was featured in the Daily Universe campus newspaper.
He told students that listening is one of the most important components of public diplomacy.
"Before you can speak to someone, you have to listen to them first to understand their concerns," Cull said.
He also talked about the new era of public diplomacy that involves online communication, and also about the use of soft power, which uses the influence of the state's values and morals.
"Soft power is the ability to get what you want by attracting followers through values and culture," he said. "You use your moral force to establish an international agenda."
