Cowan, Cull edit Annals volume on public diplomacy

University Professor Geoffrey Cowan and public diplomacy professor Nicholas Cull are the editors of the March 2008 Volume of The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. The volume, Public Diplomacy in a Changing World, includes original articles by leading scholars of public diplomacy, including Dean Ernest J. Wilson III, who authored "Hard Power, Soft Power, Smart Power." Other contributors include Wallis Annenberg Chair holder Manuel Castells, doctoral students Amelia Arsenault and Drew Margolin, and public diplomacy senior fellow Nancy Snow.

"The reader will notice that many of the authors here have a connection to the University of Southern California, where in 2003 the Annenberg School for Communication and the School of International Relations founded a Center on Public Diplomacy, headed by Joshua Fouts," Cowan and Cull wrote. "This center has provided a platform for scholarship in the field of public diplomacy and brought together several of the scholars represented in this collection to launch the world’s first master’s degree in public diplomacy or to act as advisers to or senior fellows at the center."
