Master’s Student

Where are you from and what were you doing before enrolling in graduate school?

I was born and raised in San Diego, California but my country of origin is South Sudan. Before enrolling in graduate school I was working for a local non-profit that was focused on educational enhancement dedicated to underrepresented and underprivileged students in San Diego.

How did you learn of the degree program and why did you choose USC Annenberg?

I learned about the Master of Public Diplomacy program when comparing differences in other international relations and global affairs programs in Southern California. I chose this program because it allowed me the ability to continue working in non-profit with the hopes to do so internationally. I also knew that with the skillset I’d acquire, the program would also prepare me to pursue a career in different sectors, not just limited to the private sector.

What have you enjoyed the most about the degree program?

I have enjoyed the courses and learning from such distinguished faculty. The courses also have a great way of nurturing your interests and creativity while challenging you to learn and grow in different skillsets. It also gives you a lot of practical knowledge and preparation to pursue a career in global affairs whether that be in the private or public sector. You never know what you’ll learn and end up loving and wanting to pursue. I have also really enjoyed engaging with such a unique group of people that come together from all different walks of life which makes learning and listening that much more interesting. The program gives you the opportunity to really get to know your classmates, advisors and professors!
