Where are you from and what were you doing before enrolling in graduate school?
Born and raised in Los Angeles and of Mexican descent, I worked various jobs while completing my bachelor’s degree in sport studies. In my current role at Caruso, I have had the opportunity to volunteer throughout Los Angeles, which has strengthened my community engagement and contributed to building mutual understanding of my community.
How did you learn of the degree program and why did you choose USC Annenberg?
I met with one of my professors at California State University Northridge (CSUN) to seek career advice, and he was the one who sparked my interest in sport diplomacy. Together, we explored programs across the country and abroad, ultimately deciding that USC was the best fit for igniting my passion and setting me on this path.
What have you enjoyed the most about the degree program?
The Master of Public Diplomacy program is a small cohort, which has allowed us to form a close community of friends. Being able to learn from one another and challenge each other has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. The faculty’s expertise and professional experience greatly contribute to our growth, and their dedication to helping us succeed, especially through career connections. And of course, the international excursions are pretty cool too!
