Karen Jones is a communications leader with over 20 years of expertise in driving strategic initiatives and consumer awareness for a global entertainment brand. Jones specializes in navigating complex and dynamic situations and building partnerships with stakeholders, including creative talent, media, and cross-functional teams.
Earlier this year, Jones pivoted from her television publicity career to leadership development, brand and executive storytelling, and communications consulting. She is passionate about equitable access to education and mentoring the next generation of leaders, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds.
In her former role as executive vice president and head of communications for HBO and HBO Max (now known as Max), Jones was a trusted advisor to the C-suite. She led external communications and media relations, including crisis management, and spearheaded all publicity efforts for the award-winning original content slate.
Jones currently serves as a board advisor for Read to a Child Greater Los Angeles and is currently a mentor with Ready to Succeed and the Hollywood Radio & TV Society (HRTS). She is also an executive committee member of the Television Academy Public Relations Peer Group.
Jones began her entertainment publicity career as a freelance unit publicist, working on feature films. She graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College, earning a BA in French. After a year of teaching, she pursued graduate studies in French literature at New York University before embarking on her career in entertainment. Jones was born in South Los Angeles and currently resides in Mid-City.
