Join USC Annenberg for this special panel featuring speakers in discussion with students on how to report on trauma in an ethical, sensitive and courageous way. The forum will offer guidance and best practices for journalists on interviewing survivors of trauma and creating and distributing journalism about trauma survivors with care and conviction.

  • Adriana Gallardo, ProPublica engagement reporter who has collaborated across the newsroom on investigative series covering women’s health, immigration, and sexual violence, including Unheard, an award-winning series on sexual violence survivors in Alaska.
  • Julia Lieblich, USC Journalism Fellow/Dart Fellow, award-winning journalist and author specializing in human rights. Her latest book, Wounded I Am More Awake: Finding Meaning After Terror, co-authored with Esad Boskailo, tells the story of a Bosnian concentration camp survivor who becomes a psychiatrist in the United States specializing in trauma. 
  • Michelle Theriault Boots, Anchorage Daily News reporter who covers news and features about life in Alaska, including corrections and psychiatric care issues in the state, and reported on Unheard, an award-winning series on sexual violence survivors in Alaska. First Amendment chair of the Alaska Press Club.
