Independent, fact-based journalism that holds the powerful to account is one of the great bulwarks of democracy. But it — and democracy — are under attack around the world. These threats to global media freedom are deeply concerning in their own right, but it is their impact on the health of democracy and human rights that makes the current situation truly perilous. On Tuesday, November 29, join us for a discussion with Freedom House president and former Washington Post national editor Michael Abramowitz, L.A. Times executive editor Kevin Merida, and Emmy award-winning journalist, producer, filmmaker and Latin media marketing entrepreneur Giselle Fernandez on journalism in a changing information environment, the global crackdown on free speech, and how to strengthen independent media in order to save democracy. Dean Willow Bay will provide opening remarks.
