Friday, July 28, 2023

Noon 1 p.m. PT

Soto Street Building, Room 115 1845 N. Soto Street, Los Angeles, CA 90032

Join Francesca Filbey, PhD for a special summer seminar featured speaker event presented by IAS!

Filbey is a professor and director of cognitive neuroscience research of addictive disorders at Center for Brainhealth, the School of Behavioral and Brain Science at the University of Texas at Dallas, and adjunct associate professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, department of psychiatry.

During her talk, Filbey will synthesize data from various neuroimaging techniques, such as fMRI and EEG, that will highlight the impact of cannabis on different brain regions, neurotransmitter systems, and cognitive functions. She will present neuroimaging studies in long-term, heavy cannabis users to describe (1) current methods used to examine the effects of cannabis on the brain, (2) differences in brain structure and function between cannabis users and non-users, and, (3) challenges in current scientific research in cannabis. The comprehensive insights gained from these studies contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the neurological consequences of cannabis use, offering valuable implications for public health, policy, and potential therapeutic interventions.

Lunch and parking will be provided. Please see the receptionist upon arrival and she will provide you with a parking permit to place on your dashboard.
