Thinking beyond ownership and the conditions and practices that play a role in the creation and distribution of media, this presentation highlights the significance of studying media industries by also considering scripted (and unscripted) labor, audiences, and ethnicity. Through a sample of three unique case studies, this presentation demonstrates how studying the back-and-forth relationship between media, audiences, and the construction of various discursive universes allows for a more intersectional approach to industry studies, which pays careful attention to issues of gender, race, ethnicity, the nation, and generation.
This program is open to all eligible individuals. USC Annenberg operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the University’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or any other prohibited factor.
