Meet the faculty and book talk: Nick Cull

Monday, March 9, 2020

11 a.m. 1 p.m.

USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism (ASC), 207

Join Nick Cull to launch his latest book: Public Diplomacy: Foundations for Global Engagement in the Digital Age (Polity, 2019).  The book is an overview of the key concepts and approaches necessary to integrate foreign publics into foreign policy. It separates public diplomacy from propaganda; surveys the five classic approaches: listening, advocacy, culture, exchange and international broadcasting, and concludes with a treatment of the approach that dominated the early years of this century — national branding — and the approach which he argues needs to succeed it: collaboration. The presentation will focus on the wider issues raised by the conclusion of the book and the implications for public diplomacy research and practice.

Lunch will be served.
