That Big Data is impacting pretty much all disciplines of inquiry is a cliché well-worn by now. How exactly is it doing so in specific areas, and what is its promise for the future, is the relevant question of the day. This talk attempts to address this question in the discipline of computational social science, with research that touches upon the disciplines of sociology and psychology. This is illustrated by details of our work on the dynamics of trust formation, using machine learning techniques applied to large scale, granular data on inter-personal interactions. This talks also presents applications of this work to marketing and journalism.
