Program 

Study alongside local Aussie and other international students at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), one of the top universities in Oceania and the world.  With a premier communication and media program, you’ll explore Sydney’s thriving media scene and immerse yourself in university life in Australia. With the option to live on or off-campus, you’ll gain exposure to the country’s rich Aboriginal and European cultural roots and experience Sydney’s world-class restaurants, entertainment, nightlife, shopping, and outdoor activities. Eligibility

This program is only open to Annenberg majors. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Dates

Spring 2027 Program Dates: January 4 - May 13, 2027

Curriculum 
Courses are available in most departments at UNSW including:

  • Communication
  • Journalism
  • Public Relations & Marketing
  • Advertising & Digital Media
  • Foreign Languages

​Academic Units & Credit

  • All students are required to enroll in a full course load of 16 units.
  • COMM students will be able to earn 12 units of upper-division major elective credit; the remaining 4 units taken will be general elective credits.
     
  • JOUR & PR students may be able to earn 8-12 units of upper-division major elective credit; the remaining 3 units taken will be general elective credit.
    • A petition process may be required.

​​There is no guaranteed minimum number of approved COMM courses offered at UNSW during any given semester. For more details on earning other Annenberg and non-Annenberg major and minor credit on this program, contact International Programs.

Students must take courses for a letter grade, pass/no pass is not an option. Courses will transfer to USC as credit/no credit and will not affect USC GPA. UNSW will issue a separate transcript that students may be required to submit to graduate or professional schools in the future.

Housing

Students can live in furnished single-occupancy dorm rooms or shared apartments on campus with local and international students. Students can choose to live in dormitories with meal plans or self-contained apartments with kitchen facilities.

Tuition: Approximately $10,200 USD ($14,520 AUD)

Program Fee: $500

Housing: $9,000 (more affordable housing may be available)

USC Overseas Health Insurance*: $2,298

Round-Trip Airfare: $2,000

Australian Visa: $1,750 USD ($2,500 AUD)

Estimated Personal Expenses (food, entertainment, weekend travel, etc.): $5,000

TOTAL: $30,924

*Financial Aid packages are readjusted based on study abroad program costs. Please note that your financial aid package may be affected by the lower cost of tuition at UNSW.

*All USC students are required to have sufficient health insurance during their study abroad program. In order to ensure proper coverage, all students going abroad must have either USC Overseas Policy or the USC Student Health Insurance Plan for the semester they are abroad. As students may not waive out of USC health insurance when they study abroad, students will be automatically enrolled in the USC Student Health Insurance Plan and billed accordingly by the USC Health Insurance Office. Students who have a waiver on file (because they have successfully waived out of the USC Student Health Insurance Plan through the online process on OASIS) will be enrolled in the USC Overseas Policy and billed accordingly.
