Jermaine Anthony Richards is a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow and interdisciplinary scholar-artist whose work intersects global development, emerging technologies, social impact entertainment, and (Black) bodily security/integrity.

Richards completed undergraduate studies with honors at The City University of New York (CUNY) in studio art and communications technology: digital systems and applications engineering, a concentration that joined computer science, information systems, and communications design. At CUNY, he acquired teaching experience in hacking and building communications technologies using microcomputers and developing mobile-web application software. Richards later completed graduate studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University of Southern California (USC).

Before beginning his doctoral studies, Richards served as a producer and technologist at Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Oregon, and later produced work across New York City and internationally in London, Paris, and Tokyo. He worked on music videos for Grammy award-winning artists; he also produced viral web-mobile-based games like Hair Nah. Such projects, namely Hair Nah, have been recognized by the International ANDY Awards, The One Show, the Brooklyn Arts Council, and the WEBBY Awards. It has also been exhibited globally, from Massachusetts' MassArt Art Museum to London's Tate Modern and Albert and Victoria Museums. Other projects have appeared in Vogue and The New York Times.

Jermaine has also worked in global development, leading research on media, communication, and technology law, policy, and digital development in the Lower Mekong Basin (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam) for the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade: Cyber and Critical Technology Program.
