USC Annenberg Staff Council
The USC Annenberg Staff Council (SCANN) is the first school-specific Staff Council at USC. SCANN acts as the voice of the USC Annenberg staff, celebrating staff achievements, advocating on behalf of staff needs, and cultivating a working climate beneficial to all staff members here and at the greater university.
As the voice of the USC Annenberg staff, we act as a pipeline to help route concerns to school leadership and resolve staff problems. Some examples of this include:
- Starting new staff off on the right foot via 1-on-1 support from our Welcome Committee.
- Working with departments and individuals alike to help route and address concerns about leadership, fairness, equity, and more.
- Communicating staff remote work needs via an open letter to the Provost’s office during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in greater hybrid work flexibility for USC staff.
- Supporting and working with other USC Annenberg staff bodies in their efforts toward creating a better workplace culture, including the Dean’s Office, DEIA Task Force, and more.
- Working with the Faculty Council to voice concerns over the cancellation of USC’s valedictorian speech and the resulting protests during the 2024 Commencement.
Join us for one of our regular events, including:
- Free Illy Coffee and Pastry Days, where staff can get a free treat on us.
- Staff Wellness Walks around USC’s campus, where staff can socialize and exercise.
- Staff Recognition Awards ceremonies, where staff are honored annually for their achievements.
Get involved
Attend an open General Meeting
Each month, SCANN hosts general open meetings via Zoom to discuss current issues among staff. Out of these discussions come opportunities to host events for wellness, appreciation, or community care. Our meeting schedule and Zoom links are sent to each USC Annenberg employee’s staff email at the start of each semester — and all general meetings are open to ALL STAFF! Check your email for information on how to attend!
Serve on Staff Council
SCANN is open to all full-time benefits-eligible USC Annenberg staff. Nominations kick off each March. Once elected, new members start two-year terms at the beginning of the new fiscal year. Nominate yourself or a colleague to be eligible to join — and don’t forget to vote when elections come around in April!
