Where are you from, and what were you doing before enrolling in graduate school?
I’m from Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating in 2022, I took a gap year off. I was writing and video editing freelance for the entire year before returning to school. I quickly realized that my educational journey was not over and that I had a couple of skills I wanted to polish in an academic setting.
How did you learn of the degree program, and why did you choose USC Annenberg?
I did a lot of research about what program I wanted to do before coming in. I tried to find a year-long program that would allow me creative freedom in my reporting. I also took a long look at the faculty in the program, and I found so many professors I wanted to learn from. When I got the acceptance offer from Annenberg, I was overjoyed.
What have you enjoyed the most about the degree program?
The SJ program has been so challenging but rewarding. To be honest, it’s difficult for me to pick just one thing that I enjoyed most. I think the community of professors and colleagues the SJ program provides is a highlight. I have learned so much from not only listening to my professors but also from my peers. I think that’s what has set the SJ program apart.
