Kaplan writes "Letting Animals Vote" for the Huffington Post

Marty Kaplan, communication professor and director of USC Annenberg's Norman Lear Center, recently wrote an op-ed piece for the Huffington Post that discusses a study that analyzes the way in which people change their minds. "When people are misinformed, just giving them facts to correct those errors only makes them cling to them more tenaciously," wrote Kaplan. Instead, Kaplan wrote, further studies have shown that "if you bolster people's self-worth, they're more likely to be open-minded." Kaplan credits this to the way in which humans are wired: "The link between feeling good and facing facts is a reminder that reason doesn't rule us."
