Engine30 joined USC Annenberg Arts Journalism Masters students together with 15 visiting international and national professional arts journalists, web designers and developers. Incredible as it may seem, at the time in 2012, journalism was most usually produced separately from considerations of web functionality and design. Engine30 tested data-driven storytelling and interactivity — in partnership, as well, with the Los Angeles Times, KCET's Artbound public TV, and KPCC public radio. KCET continues the Engine30 project in 2015.
